It all started on my tenth birthday. On April 29 the day before all my relatives came and I got my long awaited NES, it was becoming obsolete as usual I get everything late. Anyway the only game I was allowed to play was Mario and Duckhunt until the next day. That Saturday morning I woke up early and opened up a brand new Mega Man 2. Love that new Nintendo game smell. When I really think about it Mega Man 2 is probably my favorite game ever. I don't know why it took me so long to review it.

Anyway Mega Man 2 was the pinnacle of the Mega Man series. Mega Man 1 was too hard and really wasn't anything exciting, and everything after 2 was more of the same with different bad guys, rush, and basically just cool looking stuff. The only real new thing that was good after 2 was the Mega Buster rather than P. What makes Mega Man 2 so great? Let me finish my story.

The first time I played I became very perplexed over which guy to choose. I did them all and decided that quick man was way too hard. People had told me to do airman, but I couldn't make the jumps. I beat flashman and began to dance. I then always started with flashman because his level was so easy, no more. In metalman's level I reached the part where you have to drop down to the second floor to advance and stopped, why? Because I was stupid. I thought you needed the number 1 Item to float up to the one up then use the #3 item to go up to the next part of the level. I was so scared to die that I never went down the hole. Did I get pissed off when I found out you could go down there. I kept playing mega man for at least a year until the point where I could beat flash and bubble, and I could also get to crash man. I beat crash once with P too. Anyway we had an elementary school book fair and there was a video game hint book for sale. I wish I still had them two hint books. In the book there was a password for megaman two that was said to get straight to wily. However there was one spot still missing. Some kid I saw in school the next day told me the spot that got rid of everone, but woodman. I beat woodman and realized the password was exactly the same as some other spot.

Then Dr. Wily came. His ship flew onto the screen, and he raised his eybrows. Then the coolest video game music ever began playing. And it kept playing all the way up through the end of the game, but I didn't beat the game there. Since I was only able to make it to the third dot I decided that the metal blades were the coolest weapon, I also read somewhere that advanced players beat metal man first. So I decided that since I owned the game I could die all I wanted and play it all I wanted. That is when my video game aggression ended. Meaning I didn't slam controller when I lost, to the computer. So I went down the hole and beat metal man. Then bubble man. Then heat man, flashman, crashman, woodman, airman, and quick man with luck. Then one saturday morning when I woke up early and played mega man 2 while every one was asleep I beat the game. I was exstatic. Until then the concept of beating a video game really didn't occurr to me. I had only played games like duckhunt, and atari games. I didn't have any skills at Mario or Zelda to get an ending. I beat Zelda soon after though. Anyway it was amazing that I used the bubble and destroyed the alien. I dind't realize what the ending was at first, but I soon figured out that the alien wasn't real, and the whole thing was just a hologram set up by Wily.

So what beats mega man 2? nothing. It was so good that they brought the mega man 2 guys back in mega man 3 for another go around. The mega man 1 guys reappeared only on the cartoon show and that's it. Anyway Mega Man 2 is the best game and I'm attached to it emotionally somehow, so play it if you don't already. It has some funky beats too.

FACTS: I'm sure it has some records for copies sold or something. Mega Man is Rockman in Japan, that's why his "sister" is called Roll. Rock and Roll. Also in the purple level (I think) of the skull castle in Mega Man 2 the music playing is strikingly similar to Led Zeppelin's "Achille's Last Stand." All the big bad guys have one weakness and they all die. Also in most of the Mega Man games when Wily appears he does the "eyebrow thing" which I can also do. The same music plays, which is great. I could watch that like 100 times and not be bored.
