Since I’m living at home and working in NYC I use the Metro North Railroad New Haven line to commute. It’s a pretty decent train, usually on-time and convenient. The only complaints I can make against it are that the train cars are too old and that the train could probably go faster. But those are both really the same problem.
Ikaruga
After what is perhaps years of dawdling I finally picked up Ikaruga for the GameCube today. When it first came out I saw that it was an innovative space shooter. And I love space shooters. But I wasn’t going to pay full video game price for a space shooter with so few levels. So I waited until the price dropped. Well as it goes every time I was in a video game buying mood Ikaruga either didn’t show its face, or I had something better to buy. So now that I’m super-bored I finally decide to actively seek this game out. Its not like there are any other GameCube games I’m gearing up to buy besides the new Zelda coming much later this year. Apparently, this game was much harder to find than I first anticipated. I remember seeing it all over the place back in the day, but the only place I could find it on the net was ebay. Well, today I finally got a copy in the EB in the mall. I had checked there before, but maybe I missed it or they just got it in.
More Updating
So, I’m going to find new hosting for my site very soon. It turns out I might not find something that fits the bill perfectly. But I think I can definitely find something cheap and adequate enough to supply web hosting and e-mail while I get my affairs in order. Eventually after I get into more permanent living conditions I will get some monster 64 bit Linux server and host it either in my house or co-locate it depending on what type of net connection I can muster.
Speed Grapher
Speed Grapher is the big new anime to watch this season from Gonzo. I saw a trailer for it a few weeks back, but all it revealed was that this was a potentially good show. Today I acquired and watched the first fan-subbed episode of this new anime.
Quality of Service
I remember when I was very small I would go to the shoe store in the mall. The shoe store man new who I was after I went there a few times. He would measure my foot and put shoes on my feet after I picked them out. And in those days that kind of service was expected. It wasn’t considered special treatment. It was also better for the economy as it created more jobs and made people’s live more enjoyable.
The Price of Gas
OK, so we all know the gas prices all over the world are out of control. The oil companies are making a ludicrous profit. And we can’t seem to find a more efficient and practical source of energy to replace the burning of refined fossilized ancient plants from beneath the earth. Now I’m no economist, but I think it’s pretty obvious to me why the prices are so high and yet at the same time the companies make a huge profit. Yet, it probably isn’t the same reason that everyone seems to think is the obvious answer.
Ubuntu Linux
My Linux history is long and varied. I started with failing to install Caldera, then successfully installing RedHat in 1999/2000. In 2001 I decided RedHat didn’t support my hardware properly and went to Mandrake for 3 years. Granted I was dual-booting and mostly using win2k, but I learned a lot. Then in May 2k3 I switched up my whole computing situation. New computer, new distro, and windows was reduced to a Steam-machine. I settled on Gentoo, which I use to this day.
