Help! Need Switch

Sometimes it is hard to believe that in this crazy world someone can need a product that doesn’t exist. It’s even harder when it is quite obvious that we possess the technology and the means to create such a product. Well, today is the day. To my absolute shock and amazement I cannot find a computer product to fit my needs.

Apreche’s RSS

So I no longer have a single primary computer like in the
college days. I still got the main home desktop. But I also got the work
laptop and various other terminals which I work from. Also, I use the aircard
on the train. All in all I needed a newer better RSS reading solution than
Firefox live bookmarks, which have suited me just fine until now. I knew about
this thing my friend used called rawdog, but since I had nothing better to do
I made my own.

DS Strategy

I got three things to say about the Nintendo DS that have come to mind recently. First off, I ride the train to work every weekday. The DS is perfect for the train rides. I beat Kirby on the train this morning, what a great game. But sometimes the train shakes, a lot. When it does this it becomes near impossible to play anything requiring the touch screen. I imagine airplane turbulence and bumpy highways might also cause similar difficulties. It’s a little thing that not many notice, but it makes a big difference as those are places the DS is used most.

Removal of Facial Hairs

I don’t know if you read this article, but it’s pretty popular on the net. It advocates a return to the old style of shaving claiming that the shave is superior in quality. They also allude to the fact that you can stick it to the man by not falling into the cheap razor expensive blade scam. At first I thought the author was a shill for classicshaving.com who he links to numerous times, but I have discovered the truth.

Formula 1 Debacle

Sports play a very important role in our lives. They provide a wide variety of entertainment to many people. They provide for the livelihood of thousands of others. And they allow a relatively large group of highly skilled professionals to live well even though their skills are not directly economically viable. That is the aspect of sport which I admire most, the respect that is given to people who are extremely skilled and talented.

RSS is the new M3U

With the advent of sites like The Hype Machine, del.icio.us tags like for:joshua and RSS feeds on torrent sites I think it is time to get rid of the M3U and other playlist formats in favor of RSS. It would take so little effort to take existing media players and add RSS playlist support to them. I’m imagining a world where everyone stores their playlists in RSS and shares them so people end up listening to music by aggregating the playlists of others and listening to cool music as people discover it. This looks like the direction we’re headed, let’s move there faster.

Gaming VPN

The heyday of PC gaming is long gone. But recently I have reacquainted myself with its chief surviving remnant, Steam. It hasn’t changed much since I last played. I also randomly came across some technical articles recently, like this about how to get broadcast packets to travel over a VPN for gaming. Presumably this is for games that use IPX or some other simple LAN gaming protocol.
